Think outside the bun.
It seems matter how crude Justin Timberlake is, he continues to win the hearts of female audiences. In his newest song, Carry Out ft. Timbaland, they compare women to take-out restaurants. Real Classy.
While the tune is downright catchy, it's evident Timbaland and Justin want their women to serve them up right, no tip required. This idea that women should be "open all day and all night" to meet their sexual desires is repeated throughout the song. The music video compliments the lyrics' message. Noting the "Drive-thru" and "Hot Cakes" neon signs that hang in the background, women are shown taking pride in sharing their "goodies" and keeping their bodies in an ever-ready state to take part in sexual acts.
In both the video and lyrics we really get to see just how objectified women are in this song. Sexual acts are compared to fast food and take-out restaurants, making them appear casual and to be convenient for a man's lifestyle. I haven't decided whether I find the video or the lyrics to be more ridiculous.
Timbaland tells us that he'll keep a woman "open all night like an IHOP." How appealing. Because we all know women love a man who takes all night to get things done. He also says that he "just can't get enough, [he's] gotta drive through", suggesting the idea of a one night stand. Ya know, because women are all for being loved and left. That's got to be it. Clearly Timbaland thinks so as he then goes on to say "now is it full of myself to want you full of me?" Yes Timbaland, yes it is. Although he wants women filled with him, he's not about to do it himself. No, instead he's going to order women around instead; "girl, deliver that to me, come see me." I don't know what's more endearing, the fact that he would address a women as "girl" or that he seems to think slavery is still an option? Timbaland really knows the way to a women's heart, or any other part for that matter.
Take a look at the video and lyrics and voice your thoughts on the track. Do you think it's an accurate comparison. Should women be ready for "carry out" all the time?
Here's to hoping Timbaland gets our (women) order right and that his next album will be a littler more respectful to women.

I completely agree. This song and video is ridiculous and I do not see how any woman could like it. It is really degrading and I honestly just can't believe they have the nerve to compare a woman to a carry out and imply they can just come get it whenever they want and leave. From the first time I heard this song I thought it was so stupid and couldn't believe they came out with it.
ReplyDeleteI believe the song is degrading females. Furthermore all the songs I've heard and videos I have seen that are about women always degrade us somehow. Its as if men don't know how to talk about our beauty without comparing us to an object that in reality is far from us. Timbaland and Timberlake might dine at a five star restaurant but in no way could a restaurant compare to a woman. We were made above objects and I wish mean could learn to respect us for our minds and not just what they see on the outside. The song doesn't even respect us on the outside beauty is deeper than carry out chicken and fries. I don't understand how women can even dance in these ridiculous videos.
ReplyDeleteI love Justin Timberlake but everyone above has a point. He is such an amazing guy and singer but the media is still portraying with his manliness with adverstising women in music videos as sex objects. Also, its very fustrating to me because watching a woman put food in her mouth and adverstising herself as a piece of dessert which the men cannot wait to take home and eat you. I still feel like this is a big problem because I know when us women see this we think that it's ok for us to put our bodies out there in the open just to attract a guys attention, when we really know that were using our bodies for sex.
ReplyDeleteI agree with everyone in that why do these songs have to be degrading to women? No, sorry we're not gonna be open all night like IHOP. What makes them think that we're ever ready to be have sex whenever a man pleases? What happened to sex being a mutual agreement? Like Katie said, Timberland's talking about having one night stands with women? He's just looking for a piece of ass and then ditching her. What kind of negative thoughts does that put in a guuys mind? That girls are willing to have sex with whoever they meet. Some girls may be like that, but I know a lot of girls that would be repulsed by that ides, myself included. The media focuses so much on sex because they know that "sex sells". But how far will it really go until something bad happens? I love Justin Timerlake too, but I feel like ever since he started doing skits on SNL he's gotten a lot more raunchy and not as wholesome any more.
ReplyDeleteThis song is so degrading of females that it is crazy. It is really sad that in order for these singers to make their money, they put females down and belittle us. We are not here to serve you and you have us whenever you want us. The fact that guys think this way is so upsetting. The worst part of it is when we females are driving around town blaring the music just because it is a catchy song and Justin Timberlake is in it. Until females learn to go against this kind of music, we are just going to keep hearing these same songs with the same messages.
ReplyDeleteThis song as other rap songs are definetly putting down females. They show no respect for us and want women to be artifacts ready for men's use. What I found sad is the fact that you will often see windows down on a car and when you look at who is jamming out to the song, you will see a girl. How ironic is that ?
